Adds moving harmonies to the note or chords being played. Unlike other Ring Modulators, the Frequency Analyzer has controllable high order filters that reduce cross distortions and enhance the variations. The course and fine control let the user set a single frequency that will then be both added and subtracted from the original note or chord. Blend control lets you mix the new notes with the original. This is a must esoteric pedal, especially for techno cats. Devo had their biggest hit using the Frequency Analyzer.

Down on West 23rd Street, Mike Matthews and Electro-Harmonix are busy introducing new products including the “way out” Frequency Analyzer with ads like this.
The Frequency Analyzer was the predecessor of the new and ultra-powerful Ring Thing, Single Sideband Modulator.
Welcome to the tenth installment of EHX Effectology. In this episode Bill demonstrates a sound that reminds him of the keyboard sound in the Led Zepplein song “No Quarter”.
Second example is more of a traditional Fender Rhodes sound with a solo using the guitar into a Voice Box whistle mode.
Welcome to the second installment of Electro-Harmonix's new "Effectology" series. In the first episode, we transformed a regular electric guitar into a blues harmonica.

For the EHX history buffs, this was recorded back in the mid-70's and was distributed via inserts in magazines such as Guitar Player. It features Jerry Friedman on guitar (Jerry is a studio session legend, and played for Paul Simon, Gloria Gaynor, Bonnie Raitt, Ray Charles, Richie Havens, The Temptations, etc.), Roberto Mighty on vocals (Roberto was a tester/demonstrator for EHX, and now runs his own A/V production company in Boston, Celestial Media), and Mike Matthews twisting the knobs.
Sean (aka ToastmachineIdiot) was nice enough to record his flexidisc -- so now, for your listening pleasure (and please pardon the scratches):
Mike notes: "One side had a great demo of the Frequency Analyzer and the other the Bad Stone, which was the first phase shifter to have feedback which was accidntally discovered as an oscillation that we liked and so harnessed."
Devo's first album, "Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo" — now widely recognized as a classic — was released a whopping 30 years ago (July 1978), and ushered in the first wave of proud geek warriors.
In the picture above, standing to the left, you can just barely see that Mark Mothersbaugh has an Electro-Harmonix pedal (we're not 100% sure, but we believe it's a Frequency Analyzer) duct-taped to his guitar. But you can't miss it in the picture below, a screen-cap from the video for their cover of the Rolling Stones' "Satisfaction":
You can watch the "Satisfaction" video, in full mongoloid glory, here (look for the shot at about 10 seconds into the clip):
